Entrevista con Jaime "Idaho" Arambula. 

Despues de la participación en el  Equipo México Open, Ultimatero realizó una entrevista al refuerzo extranjero del equipo Jaime "Idaho" Arambula.

 Él ha jugado en diferentes equipos en el mundo, obteniendo la mayor fama cuando actuaba para Seattle Sockeye, antes de eso jugo para equipos como Jam, con el que obtuvo en campeonato nacional en los Estados Unidos. Tambien ha dado numerosas clinicas alrededor del mundo y ha sido coach de equipos como la Sub-23 en Colombia y PLU con las que obtuvo el Campeonato Colegial División III.

1. ¿Cómo fue que llegaste a jugar con el equipo Mexicano?

Primero conocí al ultimate mexicano en el mundial de Hawaii en 2002, Me intereso y quise jugar con el equipo en algún día. Despues, me encontre con Olamaya en New Year's Fest y me la pase increible. En 2008 en Vancouver, pude hablar con muchos jugadores de México sobre hacer una clinica. En diciembre de 2011, hice la clínica y por de ahí me invitaron a jugar el Mundial con el equipo en Sakai, Japón. 

2. ¿Qué expectativas tenías para el equipo mexicano en el Mundial?

No las tenia. Sé que culturalmente la gente facilmente se dejan llevar por las emociones, así que trate de hacer que la experiencia fuera lo más positiva posible, tanto dentro como fuera del campo. 

3. ¿Qué expectativas tenias para ti en el torneo?

Mi unica expectativa era tratar de mantenerme positivo, incluso cuando fuéramos perdiendo. Soy muy competitivo y espero ganar cada vez que me pongo los "tacos". También esperaba mantenerme sano todo el torneo. 

4. ¿Cómo te sentiste con el equipo?

Me la pasé muy bien con ellos. Fue increible vernos desarrollarnos como una unidad, ya que comenzamos el torneo teniendo 2 o 3 pequeños grupos. 

5.¿Qué problemas encontraste en el equipo?

Hacer que la gente que normalmente no jugaba junta se integrara. Los handlers que jugaban en equipos diferentes, acostumbrados a una forma de juego, les costo trabajo adaptarse el uno al otro. Curiosamente, los veteranos del equipo fueron los que tuvieron más problemas para adaptarse, mientras que los novatos o los miembros más jóvenes fueron muy adaptables e hicieron la transición de forma muy facil.

6. ¿Qué áreas de oportunidad encuentras en el Ultimate mexicano?

El Ultimate en México tiene mucha velocidad y juega con muchas emociones, creo que estratégicamente mantendría el ritmo de la ofensa muy rapido, siendo esa su fuerza, y en la defensa mantendría cambios constantes de ritmo dependiendo a que equipo se enfrenten o como este se ajusta a nuestra defensa.

7. ¿Cómo se podría atacar este problema?

Más tiempo viendo y disectando videos, tanto del equipo como de los oponentes. Tener una figura de "Coach" que más que nada este viendo los juegos y haga los ajustes necesarios. Toma mucho tiempo y pasión para progresar en esta parte.

8. Después del torneo, ¿tus expectativas fueron cumplidas?

Sí, de hecho fueron más que cumplidas. Encontramos nuestro espíritu interno y terminamos el torneo con una epica victoria viniendo desde atras, que realmente definió el espíritu y la pasión del equipo y el país al que estábamos representando.

10. ¿Qué sigue para Idaho?

No estoy seguro, lo estoy tomando día a día. Me estoy tratando de retirar y es difícil.

11. ¿Quieres agregar algo?

Todo el mundo se debería tomar el tiempo y agradecer a las personas que trabajaron duro y no pudieron ir, por la razón que sea. Hay muchas personas que se estan esforzando por hacer avanzar al Ultimate en México y no creo que esten obteniendo el reconocimiento que se merecen.  

1. How do you came to play with the Mexican team?
 I first met Mexico Ultimate in 2002 at Worlds in Hawaii. I was interested and always hoped to play for the team one day. Later, I picked up with Olamaya at New Year's Fest and had a great time. In 2008 in Vancouver I talked with lots of Mexico Ultimate players about doing a camp. Dec. 2011 I actually did the camp and was invited to play at Worlds with the team in Sakai, Japan.

2. What expectations did you have for the Mexican team in Words?
No expectation----I know that culturally, it's easy for people to be swayed by emotion, so i wanted to really try to make the whole experience a positive one for the team on and off the field

3. What expectations did you have for yourself at the tournament?
My only expectation was to try and stay positive even when we were losing---I am very competitive, and expect to win every time I cleat up. I was also hoping to stay healthy for the whole tournament.

4. How did you feel with the team?
I had a great time playing with the team. It was awesome to watch us evolve as a unit, as we begun the tournament as 2-3 small team cliques.

5. What problems did you find on the team?
Integrating people that didn't normally play together was hard. Handlers from different teams that are used to one style of play had a hard time adapting to one another. Interestingly, the veterans on the team, had the hardest time adapting to new styles of play, while the rookies, or youngest members, were highly adaptable, and made the transition very easily.



6. What areas of oportunities do you see on Mexican ultimate in general?
Mexico Ultimate has lots of speed, and plays with tons of emotion, I think that strategically it would play to their strengths to up the tempo of the offense, and keep changing the tempo of the defense depending on what team we are playing, or how they are playing/adjusting to our defenses.

7. How should they attack this problem?
More time watching and dissecting film, of their team, and the opponents. Keeping, maintaining, a 'coach' that mostly watches the games and makes adjustments. It takes time and passion to progress in this step.

8. After the tournamente, did your expectations where fulfilled?
Yes, actually my expectations were more than fulfilled. We found our inner spirit and ended our tournament with an epic come-from-behind win, that really defined the spirit and passion of the team and the country we were representing

9. Any good story from worlds?
Haha- many. look at the photos or ask Sosa/Poncho

10. Whats next for Idaho?
Not sure. I'm taking it day by day. I'm trying to retire and it's hard.

Everyone should take time to thank all the people that worked hard and couldn't go----for whatever reason-----there are a lot of people working hard to keep Mexico Ultimate moving forward and I don't think they get the recognition they deserve.
